Title: The Silent Patient
Author: Alex Michaelides
Genre: Thriller
Rating: 4.5/5
When I reached about the 3/4 mark of this novel my jaw was on the floor.
The Silent Patient is a psychological thriller narrated by a psychotherapist who begins to work with a famous patient notorious for her silence. The patient was accused of murdering her husband in an open and close case; she has not spoken a word since her arrest. It consists of a double POV of both the doctor, and the journal of the patient.
The book begins slightly slow, and some of the writing actually irked me and seemed repetitive. Though, as the book picks up it is nearly impossible to put down. It is gripping and presents you with an abundance of suspects, but ironically none that seem plausible.
Patience is my advice for this book. Fairly decent writing and an intricate story line that does not disappoint. The eggs the author planted throughout the story are beautiful to analyze as it concludes.
The true brilliance of this book is not the writing itself, but the precision of the plot. I had a number of false guesses to how it would conclude but hadn't even considered the true ending. An amazing and unpredictable ending that keeps you on the edge of your seat, at a loss for words.
